The word from the nutritionist

A glass of wine

The autumn is a magic and colored season, that is revitalized by the country festivals, as the grape harvest ritual and the taste of new wine.

This month the wine is the protagonist of this article. Today the wine is not considered only an alcoholic drink, but an harmonious mixture where the alcohol is only one of the ingredients.

The beneficial properties of the wine have been known since the ancient age and, also today, the relation between wine consumption and health is object of many discussion. The researches were started to understand some surveys about the health of different population that have different alimentary habits. They showed that the people who consume wine suffer less of some diseases that trouble the population without a wine culture. In particular, it was showed a big differences between the Mediterranean population (French and Italian in primis), that have a great consume of wine – red type in particular- and the Nordic or American people who don’t drink much wine and have more cardiovascular problems.

The wine, the red one in particular, thanks to its content of natural antioxidants (anthocyanins and polyphenols) has different properties: it is sedative, anesthetic, diuretic, energizing, anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant and antibacterial. It also aids the digestion, stimulates the increasing of good cholesterol (HDL) and prevents the arteriosclerosis, in addition it protects the blood-vessels, it reduces of the 30% the risks of heart conditions and ictus.

Obviously, it is true only if the consume of the “nectar of gods” is moderate, about two glasses at a day, otherwise the damages are superior to the benefits.
